Q - 1.  Do I need chains for my car to drive to Selwyn Snowfields?  If so, where do I get them from?

A. Regardless of the weather conditions it is a requirement by law that all 2 wheel drive vehicles carry chains at all times on the Snowy Mountains Hwy in Winter as conditions can change suddenly.  If you are caught out without them you can receive a fine of $200.  4 wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles are currently exempt.

You can hire chains from any major service station on your way to the snow including Rhythm Sports BP Service Station in Cooma, Ampol Service Station in Adaminaby, or if coming through Tumut stop at Admac Signs & Stuff on the Snowy Mountains Highway.

 

Q - 2. How do I find out what the snow conditions are like?

A. There are plenty of ways you can stay up to date with our current conditions.  If you have Internet access you can keep an eye on our daily snow report and snow cams.  If you would prefer to have our daily snow report emailed to you, then sign up here.  If you don’t have email access then you can always call our main phone number on 02 6454 9488 24 hours a day and listen to our latest snow report.  If you are in the area, tune into 97.7 Snow FM for hourly and half hourly updates.  If you have something specific you want to find out about our conditions, you can always call  02 6454 9488 and speak to our of our friendly team members.

 

Q - 3.  Do I need to buy a National Parks Pass?  If so, where do I buy one from and how much do they cost?

A. As Selwyn Snowfields is located within National Park, you are required to purchase an National Parks Vehicle Entry Permit.  These can be purchase at the National Parks Entrance Station as you drive to Selwyn Snowfields or can be pre-purchased through Snowy Mountains Holiday Centre as part of your accommodation, travel and snow package.  Entry prices for 2011 were $27 per vehicle per day, or you can purchase an annual pass for $190.  Visit http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/ for more information.

 

Q - 4. Do you have a food outlet at Selwyn Snowfields or do I need to bring a packed lunch?

A. We do have a food outlet at Selwyn Snowfields that sell a variety of hot and cold lunch options, snacks, hot and cold drinks including coffee and delicious hot chocolate.  There is also a Barista Coffee and bar with snacks upstairs on the Mezzanine level or the Big D Barista Coffee and Doughnut bar serving from an outside window at the front of the Selwyn Centre. However, if you would prefer to bring a packed lunch you are more than welcome to make yourself comfortable at one of our picnic tables out the front of the Selwyn Centre. Please do not use the tables inside to consume your own food. The inside tables are reserved for Snowgums Cafe patrons only.

 

Q - 5. What is Snow Tubing and where to I go to buy tickets?

A. Snow tubing involves sliding down our snow tubing run on an inflatable tire, much like the ones that can be pulled behind ski boats, then sitting on it while it is towed up the hill on our snow tube lift.  You can buy 5 ride or 10 rides tickets from the Ski & Clothing Hire Centre or from the Ticket Office or Information Desk in the Selwyn Centre.  You can also pre-purchase your passes through Snowy Mountains Holiday Centre as part of your accommodation, travel and snow package.  Tickets can be shared however as a general rule, only 1 tube is issued per ticket.  No doubling is allowed on snow tubes for safety reasons.

 

Q - 6.  Where do I go to hire a Toboggan and where can I use it?

A.  You can hire them from our Ski and Clothing Hire which is located adjacent to the main carpark.  They are $13 for 1 day to hire. You also need to purchase a $10 Toboggan Access Pass which you will need if you want to toboggan in the Toboggan Park at Selwyn Snowfields.  Our Toboggan Park is located in front of the Ski & Clothing Hire and next to the Snowflake Snowtube Park. 

 

Q - 7. Why do you charge $10 per toboggan to use the Toboggan Park?

A. A lot of work goes into maintaining our toboggan run to ensure it is safe and enjoyable for our guests.  The $10 charge per toboggan contributes towards these costs which include slope grooming and maintenance, snow making, ski patrol, signage, fencing and insurance.

 

Q - 8. Where do I go to pick up my pre-paid package/organise my lift tickets, lessons & hire when I arrive at Selwyn Snowfields?

A.  Your first port of call when you arrive at Selwyn Snowfields should be the Ski & Clothing Hire Centre which is the building closest to the main carpark.  The friendly team at the Ski & Clothing Hire Centre can organise all of your equipment hire needs, lift tickets and even book all your Snow Sports School lessons.  They can also fulfil your pre-paid snow package and sell snow tube tickets.  It really is a one stop shop so you can then be free to get out and enjoy the mountain!

 

Q - 9.  My 5 year old is booked into Snow World.  Where do I take him/her to drop him off?

A.  On the Ski & Clothing Hire side of the Selwyn Centre there is a set of double doors with a big yellow sign above it that says Selwyn Snow World.  Go inside and register with one of the Selwyn Snow World Team Members to drop him/her off.

 

Q - 10. I have a group lesson booked for 9.30 am.  Where do I need to go?

A. If you are booked into a group lesson, then make your way to the Snow Sports Meeting place behind the fence in front of the Selwyn Centre.  You will notice the brightly coloured banners describing different class levels such as First Time Adult Snowboarding or Skiing etc.  Find the one that matches your lesson type and class level (this information will be displayed on your lesson voucher).

If you are booked into a private lesson, head to the same area but find the sign that says Private Lessons.  Your instructor will call out your name when it is time to go.

You should try to be at the meeting place 10 minutes before your lesson start time.

 

Q - 11.  I’ve lost my son’s gloves.  Do you have a lost and found?

A.  Yes, it’s located at the Information Desk in the Selwyn Centre.

 

Q - 12.  I forgot to bring my gloves.  Do you hire them?

A.  No, unfortunately for hygiene reasons we are unable to hire gloves, hats and goggles, however all of these items are sold in the Igloo Shop inside the Selwyn Centre.

 

Q - 13.  Do you have a Mother’s Room?

A.  Yes, it is located at the bottom of the stairs on the left hand side opposite the Information Desk in the Selwyn Centre. There are 2 blue public pay phones on the left hand side of the door to the mother's room. The room contains a sink, change table, and couch.

 

Q - 14.  Do you have an ATM?

A. No we don’t, however you can get cash out at the Information Desk inside the Selwyn Centre.  We also accept EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard & American Express at all of our points of sale (minimum sale $10).
