2015 Program Overview

RADS is a seasonal coaching program for kids aged 8-15 that operates on 12 select days during the season. Coaches train with the same group of kids on Sunday and selected days during the school holidays. The children need to be able to ski/ride to a blue level (Basic Christie, crude turns on SB) as a minimum, and the program will introduce them to the different aspects of each sport, race, off-piste, bumps, park etc.

The RADS program utilises a pocket goals card, which consists of freestyle tasks and racing tasks designed to give students a well rounded skiing education. The goal sheet is used to train kids towards the three competitions available in the RADS program. These include: The ‘Slope Style

Bowl’ (freestyle competition), ‘Bump Off’ (mogul competition) and finally, ‘1614 Cup’ (Giant Slalom Race).

Throughout the season-long program kids are introduced to four fundamental skiing tasks that are continually re-evaluated during the program. These include: Javelin turns, hockey stops, short turns and one-ski. These tasks have been chosen to give kids the confidence and improved technique to turn them into well rounded and confident skiers.

Kids are also introduced to four freestyle skiing tasks that are also re-evaluated during the season. These include: Switch, Straight Box Slide, Pop 180’s and Natural Skier slides on boxes. These tasks have been chosen to give kids a solid freestyle education which will leave them feeling confident and ready to handle terrain parks in the future.

Snowboarding

Snowboard kids will also utalise the same pocket goals card, to enhance and improve riding skills these include: Pivot Slips, Edge Rolls, Tail Press and Pumping. These tasks have been chosen to give kids the confidence and improved technique to turn them into well rounded and confident riders.

The freestyle component utalises the same pocket goals card however these tasks are freestyle based. Which include: switch, 50 50 Box Slide, Pop 180 and Boarderslide. These tasks have been chosen to give kids a solid freestyle education which will leave them feeling confident and ready to handle terrain parks in the future.
